GOOD GOVERNANCE, TRANSPARENCY & ACCOUNTABILITY
A government underpinned by good governance, transparency, and accountability is a central pillar of Kiribati’s national development framework, led in part by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development (MFED). This principle ensures that public institutions operate with integrity, responsiveness, and effectiveness in managing national resources and delivering services to citizens.
MFED promotes this through:
- Transparent financial management: Strengthening budgeting, procurement, and public expenditure processes to ensure resources are used efficiently and for their intended purposes.
- Accountability mechanisms: Supporting audits, public reporting, and performance monitoring across government agencies.
- Capacity building: Enhancing institutional frameworks and training personnel to uphold high ethical and professional standards.
- Inclusive governance: Encouraging citizen participation and stakeholder engagement in planning and decision-making.
By embedding these values into policy and operations, the government aims to build public trust, combat corruption, and support sustainable, inclusive development aligned with Kiribati's national priorities.
