National Strategy for the Development of Statistics (NSDS)
The NSDS serves as a framework, process, and product developed through the collective and coordinated efforts of the National Statistical System (NSS). It is a government-owned strategy designed for the benefit of the country, guiding the planning and advancement of national statistical development.
Framework
The NSDS provides a strategic framework that outlines the direction for statistical development in the country. It establishes the foundation for strengthening and improving the production, coordination, and use of official statistics.
Process
The NSDS follows a results-based, stage-phase-step approach in designing a national strategy. This structured process promotes collaboration and coordination among stakeholders within the National Statistical System, as well as with development partners, ensuring that statistical initiatives are aligned and effective.
Product
As a product, the NSDS delivers a comprehensive plan for statistical development. It provides a medium-term vision, detailed and costed action plans, and serves as an advocacy tool to promote the importance of reliable statistics for decision-making and policy development.
Purpose and Benefits
The NSDS enables developing countries to build reliable and sustainable statistical systems that produce the data necessary to design, implement, and monitor national development policies and programs.
It also helps countries fulfill not only their national plans—such as KV20 and Kiribati Development Plans—but also their regional and international commitments, including:
- Regional Samoa Pathways
- Pacific Regionalism
- Pacific Blue 50 Agenda
- and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
