Background

The Climate Finance Division (CFD) within the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development (MFED) is primarily focused on coordinating Kiribati’s engagement with multilateral sources of climate financing for which the MFED is a focal point, most notably the Green Climate Fund, the Climate Investment Fund and the Adaptation Fund. The CFD also engages in activities that strengthen the capabilities and conditions for climate change project development, and accessing climate finance from multilateral sources.

With support from the Green Climate Fund, the CFD/MFED is currently implementing the Kiribati – GCF Readiness I project. The project is in its final stages of delivery.
